The Digital Baermann

The Digital Baermann Public Draft

Welcome to The Digital Baermann, a multimedia web resource exploring the life, work and artistic practice of the 19th-century clarinetist Carl Baermann (1810-1885). The Digital Baermann will bring together material relating to Baermann and presents it alongside embodied research into Baermann's performance style, his pedagogy and his instrument design.

What is The Digital Baermann Public Draft?

The Digital Baermann is part of the project Baermann's Body: Understanding Embodied Research in Historically Informed Performance, funded by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council from 2023–2025. The project aims to explore the sharing of embodied research through multi-media web publication. As an experiment in digital academic publishing and community review, 'public drafts' of pages from The Digital Baermann are currently being released as it develops and updated as the research progresses.
